Last week, the Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello’s a.k.a JJC Skills arrest and arraignment to court for defying the lockdown order by the Lagos state government.
The couple were arrested at their residence in Amen estate after holding a birthday house party which had over 20 guests like the law prohibited.
Meanwhile, they couple were arraigned and pleaded guilty. They were also fined the sum of 100,000 Naira each and sentenced to 14 days of community service.
However, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, some lawyers stated that the couple are now ex-convicts given the situation surrounding the issue.
As stated by the reports from Vanguard, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, said:
“There is no doubt that they are ex-convicts. This is because before the judge passed the sentence, they would have pleaded guilty, and trial would have taken place before judgment. So, as far as the law is concerned presently, they are ex-convicts”. Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN, also said the same thing in other words.
He stated:
“Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello, can be referred to as ex-convicts having pleaded guilty and were sentenced for violating restrictions order in Lagos. “Technically speaking, anybody who has gone through a trial and is convicted can be referred to as an ex-convict.”
