15 NYSC members of 2019 Batch B Stream ‘1’ who served in Ekiti state and 10 in Batch B, Stream ‘l’ in Kano State would have their compulsory 1 year service repeated, while 26 bagged various extensions.
Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, the Ekiti State Coordinator, of National Youth Service Corps, revealed this on Thursday, 28th May, 2020 in Ado-Ekiti during the passing-out of 2019 Batch B Stream 1.
As it was reported by NAN the state coordinator gave the breakdown at the ceremony held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavillion, Ado-Ekiti, without the usual ceremony.
According to her, those who are to repeat the one year service, skipped their primary assignments.
He said;
“The punishment for their offence is to repeat their service year and refund whatever allowance(s) they might have collected.
“Today, we are having the passing-out of the 2019 Batch B Stream 1. This set of corps members are unique in different ways.
” Out of 2,282 Corps members, 15 absconded and will have their service year repeated, 26 got an extension for various offences and three outstanding ones that have done well are recommended for State Awards
” 16 corps members got Commendation Letters for their outstanding work in their primary places of assignment, we, however, lost one too ruptured Appendix."
However, on measure to make sure that social distancing was maintained during the issuance of certificates, she said they designed it in a way that not more than 20 corps members attended at once.
The State Coordinator said;
”We asked corps members to come at a certain time. We ensure we do not have more than 20 to take certificates at once.
” We asked them to come with their own face masks, while we provided soaps and water to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Mrs Okpongete, also, applauded and thanked the Ekiti Government for being supportive at all the time, while advising corps members not to allow the prevalence of the Coronavirus pandemic disease to stop them from putting into positive use the skills acquired.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Lateef Tajudeen and Edith Oarhe thanked Almighty God for the successful service year.
Oarhe said; ”Though my first challenge when I came to Ekiti was the language barrier, I was able to adapt; I have learnt a lot from different people and background.”
Also, the Kano State NYSC Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Tata, disclosed during the presentation of certificates in Kano yesterday that 10 out of 3,280 Batch ‘B’ stream ‘l’ Corps members are to repeat the 1-year service, with nine others given service extension from two to three months for various offences.
“I wish to inform you that since the issue of COVID-19 in Kano, no single case was recorded among the corps members in this state.
“The corps members complied with the stay-at-home directives, and maintained personal and environmental hygiene, which are the major preventive measures,” she said. (NAN)
