The Tanzanian president, President John Magufuli, has directed a probe on the nation’s COVID-19 testing kits after samples taken from a pawpaw and a goat tested positive.
The President disclosed that the coronavirus testing kits, which was imported from abroad had “technical errors”, while speaking on Sunday, 3rd May, 2020, at an occasion in Chato in the northwest of Tanzania.
However, he revealed that he had given orders to Tanzanian security forces to check the quality of the kits, who randomly took non-human samples, including from a goat, a sheep, and a pawpaw, but had assigned them human being names and ages.
Furthermore, he added that these samples were submitted to county’s laboratory to test for the COVID-19, with the lab technicians left deliberately unaware of their origins.
His statement;
”The samples from the pawpaw and the goat tested positive for COVID-19.
“This clearly states that it was likely that some people were being tested positive when in fact they were not infected by the Coronavirus.
“Are we now supposed to quarantine goats and fruits?
”If a sample from a goat, which turned positive it means that something is not adding up.”
Meanwhile, Tanzania, has 408 recorded cases, 167 recovered with 16 deaths recorded.
