The Edo State Govt Orders Police In-Depth Investigation Into The Painful Death Of UNIBEN Student


The Edo State Governor of Edo, Gov. Godwin Obaseki, has ordered an investigation into the death of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a year one microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in the state.

DICKSON BLOG had reported how Omozuwa lost her life after she was beaten, raped and smashed with a fire extinguisher on her head, inside a Redeemed church in Benin, the state capital.

The deceased was reported to have gone into the church to read in preparation for the re-opening of school, after spending months at home owing to the pandemic disease.

However, while reacting to the ugly incident through a statement on Sunday, 31st May, 2020, the special adviser to the governor on media and communication strategy, Crusoe Osagie , disclosed that the Gov. has ordered the Police command in the state and other security agencies to investigate and fish out those behind this evil act and bring them to justice.

Osagie said;

“The governor is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa. We have been in consultation with the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and have mandated thorough investigation of the matter to ensure that those who are responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.”

The spokesman also added that the state government would make sure that the law run its course and that the violence against persons (VAP) law and other laws related to rape and sexual abuse are exploited to get justice for the deceased.
