Court frees a 16-year-old girl who murdered her father’s friend who allegedly tried to rape her.


The Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state has reportedly freed Timilehin Taiwo, a 16-year-old girl, who was charged to court for the killing of one Mr. Babatunde Ishola, a 51-year-old man who allegedly attempted to rape her.

It was previously gathered of how the teenager girl stabbed the man, who is also a security guard, to death at the Aboru area of the state on Saturday, 7th March, 2020.

Well, the 16-year-old girl, in her statement to the police, revealed that the deceased who is also her father’s friend, invited her to his house to help him in fetching water as he lived alone and that she had always been assisting him before, with house chores.

Timilehin added that on the day of the incident, while she was assisting the deceased, he tried to rape her, she went on to disclosed that in an attempt to defend herself, she picked up a knife and stabbed him, which led to his death.

Then, the police later charged her to court for murder. At the hearing of the case on Wednesday, 10th June, 2020, Magistrate Philip Adebowale Ojo struck out the murder charge filed by the police against Timilehin following advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Dr. Babajide Martins, the Director, Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD), whose office defended the the 16-year-old girl, pro bono, expressed contentment with the court’s ruling.
