George Floyd: FIFA launches statement on players campaigning for justice for late George Floyd

FIFA has advised football competition organizers to apply ‘common sense’ and regard not punishing player who demands justice for George Floyd, during games.

The football governing body made this in a statement to the Associated newsmen on Monday, 1st June, 2020.

George Floyd, a 46-year-old, lost his life on Monday, 25th May, 2020, at the hands of a White police man in Minneapolis, United States.

It was gathered that some football players, like  McKennie and Thuram and Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi, used last weekend matches in the German Bundesliga to campaign for the solidarity of Floyd.

FIFA’s statement read;

“FIFA fully understands the depth of sentiment and concerns expressed by many footballers in light of the tragic circumstances of the George Floyd case.

“The application of the laws of the game is left for the competitions’ organizers, which should use common sense and have in consideration the context surrounding the events.

“FIFA had repeatedly expressed itself to be resolutely against racism and discrimination of any kind and recently strengthened its own disciplinary rules with a view to helping to eradicate such behaviours.”
