EFCC appoints its Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar as Magu’s replacement


Mohammed Umar, the EFCC Director of Operations, has been picked to oversee the affairs of the commission after its acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, was suspended.

This was made known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by a top official of EFCC on Tuesday, 7th July, 2020.

According to NAN who reported that the source, who wished to be anonymous, alleged that Umar was chosen by the “EFCC’s hierarchy” after Magu was suspended.

The anonymous source, also revealed that the commission had not received any official communication on Magu’s suspension.

Meanwhile, a presidential committee is currently probing the activities of EFCC under Magu.
This followed an indictment by Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

Ibrahim Magu was picked up by security operatives said to be from the Department of State Services, DSS, on Monday, 6th July, 2020, and taken to the Presidential Villa, Abuja as part of the ongoing investigation.

While Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, alleged that Ibrahim Magu was only invited for questioning.
