The Arewa Youth Consultative Council (AYCC) has appealed to the Federal Government to block sexual and immorally-related sites from the Nigerian cyberspace.
As per the group, this appeal is for the youth’s progressive effort to building the nation.
Well, in a statement signed on Friday, August 14, 2020, by Muhammad Ibrahim, the group’s spokesperson, AYCC revealed it is concerned by the exposure of Nigerian youths to ‘sexual contamination’.
The group in a 2 page letter addressed to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, appealed to the government to immediately intervene in blocking indecency and sexual sites.
Also, they proposed that people or organizations that refuse to comply with the ban ought to be fined in billions
The statement reads in below;
“we’re confident that your intervention can greatly block or cripple the emerging new order of indecency, immorality, and increasing cases of sexual behaviors. Sexualized interactions, immoral communications, exposure to pornography, online dating and other social ills. This is sacrosanct, as the phenomena is growing rapidly everyday. we must do something as a nation that believe in christianity and Islam even thpugh we claim to be secular, yet no religion or culture , tribe or section of Nigerians can justify the incestous exposure of our youth to sexual contamination”.
Nevertheless, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, in reaction via his official Twitter page, revealed that the group should redirect the appeal rather to the Ministry of Information and Culture, headed by Lai Mohammed.

Dear @DrIsaPantami, kindly consider this as our progressive effort to nation building. You've proved that youths inclusion in governance is the most reliable tool for the growth and development of Nigeria. Kindly accept this as our contribution sir. @FMoCDENigeria @NTANewsNow. pic.twitter.com/oS0jVu20VE— AREWA YOUTH CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL (AYCC) (@ArewaAycc) August 14, 2020
