Few weeks after recovering from coronavirus, Nigerian basketball player dies of heart failure during training

A Nigerian-born basketball player and former Florida State University center, Michael Ojo, kicked the bucket on Friday in the wake of collapsing during training in Belgrade, Serbia.

The player who was 27-year-old, was rushed to a hospital in the Serbian capital, but doctors failed to resuscitate him, Belgrade media reported.

“The sudden and shocking death has deeply shaken everyone in the club,” Red Star Belgrade said in a statement.

The deceased was accounted to have tested positive for COVID-19, but also that he had recovered. Local media detailed that he passed on of a heart failure.

Ojo played in Serbia all through his professional career, which started in 2017.

He attended Florida State and as a senior player, he averaged 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Thus, instead of an NBA career, he signed with a Serbian side, Kosarkaski klub FMP, otherwise known as KK FMP
