The Government of Edo State has announced the imposition of a 24-hour curfew within the state.
The immediate curfew is to take effect from 4:00 pm, October 19, 2020, till further notice.
It was revealed by Osarodion Ogie, the secretary to the state government.
He disclosed that the imposition of the curfew was due to the incidents of vandalism and assaults carried out by thugs who hijacked the peaceful #ENDSARS protests.
In his words..
“This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of the #ENDSARS protests.
“While the government of Edo State respects the rights of its citizens to undertake legitimate protests, it cannot sit idly when hoodlums have taken laws into their hands to cause mayhem on innocent citizens and the state.”
Businesses and schools are to shutdown activities accordingly, following the announcement.
And those who can't move safely are urged to remain put between now and 4:00pm until calmness is restored.
The suspected thugs had prior on Monday morning, 19th October, 2020, hijacked the #EndSARS peaceful protests in Benin City.
The thugs can be spotted in videos invading the Benin Medium security prison on Sapele Road, releasing prisoners.
