#LekkiMassacre: "Use Your Power As Commander-In-Chief To Fish Out Soldiers Deployed To Lekki" - Babajide Sanwo-Olu To Buhari

The Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on President Buhari to earnestly order an investigation into the circumstances that prompted the irregular shooting reported at the Lekki toll gate by soldiers on Tuesday night, 20th October, 2020.

Speaking in a state-wide transmission on Wednesday morning, the governor debunked playing a part in the deployment of soldiers to the region where #EndSARS peaceful protesters were accumulated.

“No sitting governor controls the rules of engagement of the military,” said Sanwo-Olu.

He also contradicted the Nigerian Army which had denied the presence of the soldiers at the scene of the shooting.

As opposed to reports and videos showing that the Nigerian soldiers allegedly started shooting on the protesters and killed many of them, the governor alleged that no death was recorded during the shooting.

Sanwo-Olu, nonetheless, called for investigations into the shooting incident.

“I have nonetheless instructed an investigation into the overt and adopted rules of engagement employed by the officers and men of the Nigerian Army that were deployed to the Lekki toll gate last night.

“This is in view to taking it up with the higher commands of the Nigerians Army and to seek the intervention of Mr. President in his capacity as the commander in chief to unravel the sequence of events that happened yesterday night.

“Fellow Lagosians, once we prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, we are comforted that we have not recorded any fatalities as against the widespread circulation on the social media.”
