“My heart goes out to all the victims of the Lekki shootings” – The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo writes

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president of Nigeria, has sympathized with the casaulties of the Lekki tollgate area shooting in Lagos state.

The Nigerian soldiers had on Tuesday night, 20th October, 2020, opened fire on the #EndSARS peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate leaving more than 50 unarmed protesters wounded, and a yet to be confirmed number of individuals that lost their lives.

In response to the Lekki massacre, Osinbajo, in a statement shared via his Facebook account, commiserated with the casualties of shootouts and others across the nation.

In his words, 

“My heart goes out to all the victims of the Lekki shootings, and also the policemen and all other men and women who lost their lives in the past few days in different parts of Lagos & other states. I spoke to some of those in hospital.

The pain of these terrible events is palpable in our towns and cities, and some losses are irreplaceable, but we can and will get justice for all of them. I stand with Lagos & all other affected states in these trying times.We pray we will never see a repeat of these tragedies in Jesus name. God bless you.”
