Singer, Burna Boy calls for ‘institutional reform’ and high on the pay for Policemen

Sensational Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu alias Burna Boy has taken to Twitter to demand for institutional reform of the Nigerian Police Force and increased salaries for policemen.

As per the self-acclaimed African Giant, there is no reason why a sergeant in the force should be earning N50,000/N60,000 in a month with no benefits.

Going further, he maintained that the poor salary won't help the youth’s fight against the brutality of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

In his words,

“It’s a great morning to demand for institutional reform in Nigeria. No reason why a sergeant on the police force earns 50/60k ($127) a month with no benefits! It doesn’t help our plight. #SARSMUSTEND”

As expected, one twitter user with handle @JuanPedro_Marion in response to Burnaboy’s statement, stated that the low pay is not an excuse for the atrocities they commit, as they are not the only civil servants that are underpaid.

In his words,

“This really isn’t an excuse for their misbehaviour. Its not just the Nigerian police officers that are underpaid. Doctors are underpaid, teachers are underpaid as well. Everyone is freaking underpaid! Except for the political office holders.”
