The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has issued the prisoners who escaped from the Benin Medium Security Correctional Centre, Sapele Road and the Oko Medium Security Correctional Centre Friday, 23rd October, 2020, as the last day, to return voluntarily or face the wrath of the law.
As per the Nigerian Tribune, the Obaseki gave the 3-day ultimatum on Wednesday, 21st October, in Benin, while on an assessment tour of the facilities in company of the the Controller of Correction, Edo State Command, Babayo Maisanda, who announced that 6 out of the 1,993 inmates who left the prison yard during the jail breaks had voluntarily came back.
It ought to be recalled that some thugs who high jacked the #EndSARS peaceful protest in the state had on Monday, 19th October, 2020, attacked the 2 Correctional Centres and freed the prisoners after unleashing terror on the facilities, its staff and their properties, mostly, vehicles.
