Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has unveiled why relatives of those who fell victim of the shooting at Lekki tollgate on Tuesday night, 20th October are afraid to speak.
Falana made this known while speaking at a virtual #EndSARS meeting organized by Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, yesterday October 28.
As per him, family members of #LekkiMassacre casualties have refused to speak about the occurrence “because of the environment under which we operate”.
The activist stressed that the military is “known for lies and deception”, and that there must be justice for the casualties of Lekki shooting.
The senior advocate of Nigeria revealed that the Lekki incident must not be hidden away from plain view simply like Nigerian Army “covered up” the reported killing of 347 Shi’ites in Zaria, Kaduna state, in 2015.
Speaking at the meeting, he asserted that nothing ought to have warranted soldiers’ presence at the protest venue.
He revealed that bodies of Zaria casualties of the above instance “were taken away in the dead of the night and given a mass burial.”
“Who has come up in the case of Zaria? Because you must understand the environment under which we operate”, he questioned.
He additionally revealed that some of those wounded in the Lekki shooting “had to forcefully discharge themselves.”
As per him, the wounded protesters were told in a hospital that they were going to be held liable for the uproars in town, “and so, everybody had to move.”
