Lekkishooting: ”CNN lied to the world about Nigeria” – President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Onochie

The Special Assistant to President Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has blasted CNN over its investigative report on the Lekki tollgate shooting.

On Thursday, 19th November, 2020, she took to her official Twitter page and disclosed that the Cable News Network (CNN) lied to the international community, adding that Nigeria will not be intimidated.

In her words...

“I’m not upset that CNN lied to the world about my nation, Nigeria. I’m upset that they think we are so stupid that we will swallow their lies. We won’t be bullied into believing a lie!.”

The American based television channel, revealed that in spite of the denial by the Nigerian Army and federal government, its findings show that live bullets were used against the EndSARS peaceful protesters.

On Tuesday evening, 20th October, 2020, soldiers marched to the Lekki toll plaza at about 6:45pm and opened fire at the protesters.

After the first claim that the Nigerian soldiers were not deployed to the location, the Nigerian Army authority said that only blank bullets were fired.

The Commander 81 Division, Brigadier General, Ahmed Ibrahim Taiwo, told the Lagos Judicial Panel that the military personnel was called in by the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Commander 81 Division, noted that the Army responded, “to forestall further violence and loss of lives”.
