FIFA has nominated Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, as the last 3 finalists for 2020 The Best FIFA Men’s Player.
FIFA had on Wednesday, 25th November, unveiled a shortlist of 11 players for the prize, with Bayern striker leading the charge after a prolific campaign in which he led his club to a domestic treble amid a flurry of goals.
Nonetheless, since then, the liks of Neymar, Virgil van Dijk Sergio Ramos, Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Sadio Mane, Kylian Mbappe and Thiago Alcantara have all dropped out of the running, leaving Lewandowski up against 2 former winners.
Ronaldo claimed the prize in both 2016 and 2017, when he dominated the voting after leading Real Madrid to successive Champions League trophies. Since then, nevertheless, he has completed a switch to Italy with Juventus, though he remains as prolific a scorer.
Messi, on the other hand, is the reigning holder of the prize but is widely regarded to have had a disappointing year amid a turbulent period for his Barcelona side.
