The US Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell has hinted that the upper legislative chamber will not impeach President Donald Trump.
In a historic moment, the House Representatives impeached Trump on Wednesday for the invasion of the Capitol Building by his supporters.
A total of 10 Republicans voted against their party and Donald Trump, with the final result being 232 votes to impeach, and 197 against in the House of Representatives.
In a statement, McConnell suggested it was too late to initiate a similar process in the Senate.
In his words... “There is simply no chance that a fair or serious trial could conclude before President-elect, Biden is sworn in next week.
“This is not a decision I am making; it is a fact.”
McConnell called on the US Congress to focus more on ensuring a smooth transition of power in the coming days.
