Former Nigeria’s minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed gratitude toUS for finally expressing their support for her candidacy in her bid to emerge as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
United States of America support for Okonjo-Iweala came after South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee officially withdrew from the race on Friday, 5th February, 2021.
The Trump’s led-administration favoured the South Korean but a change in US government was instrumental in Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerging as the only candidate for the job.
However, Okonjo-Iweala took to her official twitter page late on Friday to applaud the US for their latest support.
She also congratulated Yoo, in her words...“for a hard fought campaign,” and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerians for their “unflinching support.”
She tweeted...
“Grateful for the expression of support from the US today for DG @WTO. Congratulations to Madam Yoo of Rep. Korea for a hard fought campaign.Thank You President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari &all Nigerians for your unflinching support.Thank you friends. Love to my family.Glory to God.”
