The (ICPC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has confirmed that it is looking into the alleged cases of fraud in the management of coronavirus pandemic funds.
Akeem Lawal, the ICPC’s Director of Operations, made this known during a virtual meeting, the agency held with stakeholders on Thursday, 28th May, 2020.
In which the meeting theme was “COVID-19 Funds Management and Monitoring: Preventing Slide into Old Habits.”
The Director revealed that some of the cases involved some govt institutions in charge of the release and distribution of grains from the reserve.
As stated by Lawal, there is also a case where some emergency funds were redirected into a private bank account.
He said;
“In all cases of infraction, culprits will be investigated and prosecuted.
ICPC chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye, had earlier said the commission has set up a committee to monitor use of COVID-19 funds “because this period could trigger a high level of corruption.”
