In Imo state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) revealed that hunger prompted the defection of its members to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Martin Ejiogu, the PDP Acting Chairman, disclosed this at a media briefing on Thursday, 28th May, 2020.
The PDP ex-chairman, Charles Ezekwem, ex-Youth leader, Williams Ahanonu, ex-Publicity Secretary, Damion’s Opara, among others, had all left to the APC.
Ejiogu stated that these defectors worked against their former party, PDP during the 2019 general elections.
He then noted that they were not important to PDP.
Ejiogu said;
“We are not bothered by their exit because none of the defectors delivered their polling unit at the 2019 general elections. They were all liabilities to the party and now that they have left, we will be stronger to fight a common goal”.
He also advised the APC to be wary of “gold-diggers”.
The official added that their decision was selfish as they alleged that the zoning arrangement of the party was not favouring them.
Ejiogu said that they had “in principle left the party a long time ago because what played out earlier today was a mere drama, a dummy from a script that had been written months before now”.
