The Vice President-led committee tells FG to suspend NYSC camps for 24 months

The Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo-led Economic Sustainability Committee (ESC) has called on the federal government to think about suspending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp exercises for 2 years.

Well, in a recent report submitted to President by the committe, TheCable reports that the committee advocated the idea of suspending of NYSC camps for 2 years.

The report reads below;

“The immediate focus in the Education sector is to address the disruptions caused by the pandemic and ensuing social distancing measures at all levels of education,”

“Practical steps will be taken to minimize disruption to learning, utilizing technology as appropriate. Specifically, virtual learning will be implemented (either online or through broadcast), virtual convocation ceremonies or issuance of certificates (with postponed ceremonies) should be implemented to continue educational progression.

“In similar context, consideration will be given to suspending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp Exercises for at least 24 months while allowing deployment to places of primary assignment.

“This will ensure that there is no backlog in the National Service placement pipeline.”

Meanwhile, recalled that in March, 2020, NYSC camps were shut down following the coronavirus outbreak across the country.

And, it is still not known if the Federal Government will take this portion of the Economic Sustainability Committee’s recommendation.
