10 inmates from Edo prison break re-arrested for robbery

10 escaped prisoners from the Benin Medium Custodial Centre and Oko Medium Custodial Centre, have been re-apprehended in a robbery and attempted murder.

Well, this is coming after a break-in at the Edo prison facility otherwise called the White House, by thugs in the guise of #Endsars protesters. No less than 1,993 inmates were liberated and the prison’s armory looted.

Johnson Kokumon, the state’s Commissioner of Police, on Wednesday, 28th October, 2020, stated that 6 of the escapees were re-arrested for an alleged armed robbery while 1 was nabbed for endeavoring to kill the prosecution witness who testified against him in Court.

He also revealed that one Henry Atadi, after escaping from the prison, snatched a Lexus car and was apprehended at the Okada area with the car.

Speaking further, the Commissioner added that Eddy Favour, Patrick Eguavoen, and Abraham Mathew stole Lexus saloon car ES 330, with registration number Abuja: KWL 205 AZ, in the wake escaping from prison and sold the car at Igueben, in Igueben local government area of the state.

Nevertheless, speaking with newsmen, Atadi, debunked stealing the car, claiming that he was only given a lift after he got his freedom.

“After we were set free, I didn’t have money to go home. So, as I was waiting for a vehicle, someone gave me a lift but when we get to Okada, police stopped us and the man that carried us suddenly disappeared and I was arrested,” said Atadi.
