The exceptionally foreseen reunion between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has been marred as another positive Covid-19 test ruled the Juventus superstar out of Champions League match against Barcelona on Wednesday, 28th October.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been self-isolating since he tested positive while on international obligation with his national team, Portugal on October 13.
He returned another positive result a week ago, but went through additional testing in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of Juventus’ blockbuster tie against Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Sky Italy affirmed Ronaldo neglected to test negative 24 hours ahead of kick-off, as required by UEFA in order to play.
The Juventus forward’s expected reunion with rival Messi was the standout fixture when the Champions League groups were drawn.
The duo, who have 11 Ballon d’or titles between them (Ronaldo, 5, Messi, 6), have not confronted each other in the Champions League since the semi-last between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the 2011/12 season.
Ronaldo has missed 3 matches for Juventus since he tested positive, a triumph over Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League Group G opener a week ago and 2 draws in Serie A.
The playmaker has been asymptomatic and shared regular updates via social media showing his home exercises and flaunting a new buzzcut.
